The Bar Hill Residents Association published the Bar Hill News in December 1967. It was produced on a single sheet of paper and then photocopied for each resident. We have, in our archive, a very work original first edition as well as photocopies made previously to allow them to be safely examined without further risk of damage.
We have published a digital copy of the first issue via the Internet Archive (archive.org). A copy of the first issue can be accessed here. Stories in the first issue include updates from the developers and the distribution of welfare foods.
We have been working since the BHCA was setup to digitise and share as many of the old issues as possible. In June 2026 an Archive Committee was setup by the BHCA to take over this preservation work and ensure it isn't just available for 2027s 60th Anniversary of the village but is available in 2067 for the 100th!
We have digital copies of MOST of the Bar Hill News issues. We are working to make as many as possible available online, but this will take some time. If you have any old copies of the Bar Hill News or other documents related to our village that you want to add to the Village Archive, please contact that committee directly!

The original copies of the Bar Hill News were put together using the traditional paper, glue, and a photocopier! All the printed pages were then handed to the collators who would put each issue together and staple it, and then they would go on to the distributors who would bundle up the magazine by street, out to individual deliverers who would deliver them to you, the reader!
How we currently work is that issues are assembled by the Editor using Apple Pages, a PDF is circulated for review, the magazine is printed externally by Solopress and delivered to our wholesaler who bundles the issues up. Deliverers then collect the bundles and deliver across the village.
The monthly cost for printing is around £700. It varies depending on the number of pages in the issue (December is always a large month). We have zero staffing costs as the editor, our contributors, proof readers, wholesalers, and deliverers are all volunteers!
